How Democrata de Sete Lagoas Came About
Democrata de Sete Lagoas was founded on July 14, 1914, stemming from meetings at the “Bar Chique,” which was the gathering place of Sete Lagoas society at the time. In fact, the team’s official name is Democrata Futebol Clube, although it’s not commonly used.
To acquire the first uniform, they raised funds during the meeting that marked the team’s inception. Shortly after, they ordered the uniform from a specialized shop in Rio de Janeiro through a telegram.

In 1953, the team only participated in amateur competitions and won multiple championships. However, this year also marked the beginning of professional football competitions, with participation in the Campeonato da Cidade de Belo Horizonte, which is now the Campeonato Mineiro.
After numerous financial difficulties, in 2003, Democrata de Sete Lagoas managed to return to professional football and became the runner-up in the Third Division. In 2004, they secured the runner-up position in the Módulo II (Second Division).
In 2006, with the inauguration of the Arena do Jacaré, even though it was in precarious conditions, Democrata had a good campaign and reached sixth place in the championship.
In 2008, after three years competing in the Módulo I of the Campeonato Mineiro de Futebol, they were relegated to the Second Division (Módulo II), and then to the Third Division in 2009.

This was because the State of Minas Gerais was responsible for renovations to accommodate the Capital’s clubs during the closure of the Mineirão and Independência stadiums. This was aimed at the Confederations Cup (2013) and the World Cup (2014).
